Please give us a short summary of your website?
A website on south Indian classical music, known as carnatic music. we offer free downloads of music concert videos and also free learning sessions. We also feature maestros, upcoming talents etc. The site also deals with Indian classical dance, culture and tradition.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I am a violinist who have been in the carnatic music field for the past 10 years.I have contacts of eminent personalities in carnatic music and have a good relationship with other websites. more over i work in a web development organization hence i have easy access to latest technologies

I launched my first website www.carnaticindia.com on 16th February 2006
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My topic was carnatic music so the name carnaticindia seemed to be appealing phonetically as well as aesthetically.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Almost all services offered are free in our website. most of the other websites ask for money to offer services.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We are a non profit website set up to promote carnatic music hence we don't have a revenue motive in it . how ever we need money to run the website, that we generate through advertisement revenue.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Our expense to maintain the website is less as our team itself is sufficient to deal the technical as well as functional parts.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We will incorporate programming so that visitors can browse for a particular title. Will incorporate monthly interviews with celebrities and organize seminars and workshops for the benefit of music enthusiasts.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
yes for sure. because music is something which is live in all ages.Also presently we are technically sound to cater to a huge volume of visitors on a daily basis.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We are running perfect right now. But earlier we faced several issues with non responding slow servers. Now we have upgraded our server to global standards thus offering our visitors the maximum speed and comfort.
What has been your biggest challenge?
to sustain without charging the visitors a penny. We offer our services free so we need to depend on advertisement revenue to sustain. that is a big challenge.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
optimizing web content thus getting indexed in search engines and direct promotion
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
in the beginning we planned to cater for just a few people now we have more than 15000 visitors a month
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site is now up for more than 4 years and we plan to make this a big venture in the coming years. now the website has reached its maturity and now its easy to run it!
what are your future plans?
We plan to develop this website into the best south indian music portal in the coming years and to become a reference resource to the future generations. We also have plans to move to a dedicated hosting server.
