Proposed law to require radio payments to music labels move forward
05/16/09 00:39
Broadcast radio stations may be finally forced to pay royalty fees to music labels for playing their music, as the proposed Performance Rights Act move forward to approval last Wednesday.
Terrestial radio stations have resisted payments to music labels for decades, whereas cable and Internet radio stations have done so for the longest time.
Once approved, the law will support struggling artists and rights holders in their fight for fair compensation.
