KaraokeTraveler Interview

By Interviewer at 02/22/10 16:19

Name of your website?

KaraokeTraveler

Your name?

Michelle Davis

Please give us a short summary of your website?

KaraokeTraveler is a karaoke lifestyle Internet magazine that features up-to-date karaoke bar listings in major cities across the U.S.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

My boyfriend is a karaoke fanatic and when we first started dating, he was always asking where can we go to sing tonight? We always resorted to the web, but never found a reliable, comprehensive, updated list of places.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

KaraokeTraveler was launched June 2008. The domain was purchased on Valentines Day 2007.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Lots of brainstorming, and then finally, "karaoketraveler" had a nice ring to it. I like it because it sounded a little like an elite credit card or something (ie, American Express,or Diners Club) and it also was a salute to the many who like to karaoke in different places.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Our listings are 99% generated by Karaoketraveler staff actually calling and confirming with venues that host karaoke. User generated submissions are confirmed this way as well. That makes the info more reliable. We also update current listings every 6 months. Its like the yellowpages for karaoke places.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I am an entreprenuer, this venture is my baby, so I will have to keep at least until it matures!

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I must say, that the site's popularity is growing much faster than my conservative estimates.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would list international listings and put up sister sites in other languages.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Of course

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Quirky html.

What is your website address?
