Sydney Flute Festival Interview

By Interviewer at 02/17/08 07:07

Name of your website?

Sydney Flute Festival

Your name?

Lyndie

Your Location (city, etc)

Sydney

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Flute, piccolo competitions, masterclasses, workshops and recitals.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The positive feedback we got after the last Festival (2007). We want to spread the word about this great Flute event.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

2006

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The Festival takes place in Sydney and involves flutes and flautists/flutists.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

There is a growing niche for an event like this in Australia. There is no other event, currently, like this in Australia.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To expose Australian flautists/flutists to world class flautists. To encourage flautists from other parts of the world to visit Australia.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Enormous interest and very positive feedback from people who attended the Sydney Flute Festival in 2008. Many international flautists enquiring about Sydney Flute Festival and asking us to be guest artists.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Wouldn't change our site. It worked very well - is very efficient.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The cost of the venue was really expensive, but it is a great venue.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Marketing

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Newsletters and word of mouth.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

The website was very successful - well designed and functional - just need to drive traffic to it. Received very positive feedback about the look of the site.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

One year. Will run it as long as we are running Sydney Flute Festival

What do flautists/flutists say about Sydney Flute Festival?

It is very well organised. Great venue. The choice of guest flutists was fantastic. A friendly, fun, informative, educational 3 days.

What is your website address?

Sydney Flute Festival
