Name of your website?Highland Recording Studio
Your name?
Shane Matsumoto
Your Location (city, etc)
Phoenix
Please give us a short summary of your website?
Features not only info about our studio but is a parent site to our independent music podcast show featuring indie artists from all over the world.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Marketing and the desire to be a vital part of the indie music scene.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
www.paradigmlost.com launched in 1994 - it was my band's website and it is still up, though it has evolved into Paradigm Lost Productions - another promotion of my recording services.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is the name of the studio, we are just off the Highland exit on the 51 in Phoenix so it makes it easy to remember what the nearest cross-streets are.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We have the best recording studios in Phoenix for the price. You can't beat our offerings for the money.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Continue to build and use it as a marketing tool.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It always starts small then it snowballs as search engines and good word of mouth continue to propel us.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would have someone with a full-time job to update it every day and put news and resources on it so it is a major hub for everyone in the music and recording biz.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, we have plenty of avenues for fast expansion.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Just the usual slow start-up costs requiring patience.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Starting a new site from scratch and wanting to see it rank on the search engines so bad, but knowing it takes time.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth and strategic alliances/link exchanges.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
More work than expected.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Site designed and launched in May along with indiemusicpodcast.com and positivenetworkmedia.com. This is my livelihood and lifeblood so I don't plan on abandoning it no matter how "unenjoyable" things might get.
In your short time in business, have you had any big clients?
Yes, right off the bat we got to do mixing and mastering for the Fall Out Boys and we have already done post-production for Latino-translated commercials for Cox Cable and pilots for the local CBS affiliate.
